The 40-member Xinjiang Song and Dance Ensemble, from Xinjiang, China, is set to mesmerise audiences with a musical and dance performance in aid of charities in Seremban next month.

The two-hour charity performance is in aid of community service projects of the Senawang Rotary Club (RC Senawang) and the Chung Hua High School Old Boy’s Association.

RC Senawang president Tang Kim Ang expressed hope that the performance would help raise funds for the club’s varied community service projects.

“It’s a chance to treat yourself to an extraordinary song and dance showcase while doing your bit for charity.

“Funds raised will be chanelled to our community service projects and also to community educational programmes run by the Chung Hua High School Old Boy’s Association,” he said at a press conference recently.

Some of the ongoing projects undertaken by the club include providing needy children in rural schools with lunch, providing new wheelchairs for free to the hardcore poor in need of them and free annaul health screenings for the underprivileged.

The club also plans to clean up and improve the water quality of the nearby Ampangan river, a project that is estimated to cost RM60,000.

“We hope to raise RM150,000 from the performance for our projects. Our members contribute towards these projects routinely. However, every bit counts and contributions from the public also enables us to reach out to more people in need.

“We are glad to be able to bring this musical ensemble to Seremban for the benefit of residents here who otherwise would not have easy access to a show of this scale,” said Tang.

The ensemble also performed during the bid for the Beijing Olympics in Moscow.

Highlights of the show include Pretty Girls - a Kazak female group dance, Where Are You - a Kyrgyz and Mandarin female song solo, Xia-di-ya-na - an Uyghur male group dance and The Season of Spring - a flute solo, among others.

The cultural performance will be held at the Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) hall in Seremban at 8pm on Nov 13.

The Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir will grace the event with his consort Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud.

Tickets are by invitation only and are priced at RM20 (students), RM50, RM100 and RM150.
