KSC approved to launch Alternative Investment Fund which invests in Pur Erh tea
KSC has been approved by the Securities Commission in late August 2007 to launch a new Restricted Investment Scheme (RIS) fund called KSC Alternative Investment Fund. This “Alternative Investment Fund” (AIF) will be investing in Pur Erh tea.
Pur Erh tea is an increasingly popular Chinese tea
Pur Erh tea is a type of tea drunk by Chinese all over the world. The tea leaves are grown mainly in the Yunnan province, China due to the suitability of its sub-tropical climate, high altitude and soil conditions. There are many grades of Pur Erh tea and like wine, high quality Pur Erh tea is sought after by collectors and connoisseurs alike. Pur Erh tea is the only tea that improves in flavour as it ages through the fermentation process.
Supply limited, demand strong; very profitable
The supply of Pur Erh tea is limited by the area in which it can grow whilst demand growth has been significant given the rise in wealth levels amongst the Chinese. And this looks set to continue foe a while as China continues on its economic growth trajectory. For example, 2005 Da-Yi 7260 (a well known brand, year 2005) has appreciated by 225% since 2005. Thus, investing in high quality Pur Erh tea can be very profitable.
Two parties managing Fund
KSC is working together with Hai-O Enterprise Berhad (Hai-O), a Malaysian public listed company, who are the experts in buying, storing and selling Pur Erh tea to launch this Fund.
